Primarily self-trained, Maggie Meiners has had a passion for photography since her childhood and has been shooting photos since 2000. Her work focuses on documenting the beauty, complications, emotions and surprises of everyday life.
She sees form and art in something most people would not, and brings it to light in a photograph. It doesn't necessarily matter what the subject is, but whether or not it is open for interpretation. She has the ability to give new information and provide the viewer with insight into a quality that they cannot ordinarily experience. Maggie's compositions are direct, to the point of appearing minimal, while her subject matter, conversely discloses significant complexity. In all of her projects, she challenges herself to push technical norms and include compelling and thought provoking images.
Maggie is currently working on a series involving the use of color and random patterns as a way of bringing the viewer into the meditative process of making photographs. This series will be exhibited at Gallery 180 Chicago, IL in September 2008.
Maggie grew up outside of Chicago and has her work regularly featured at galleries, executive offices and private collections.
